Castle Frankenstein...mwahahahaha

So back on that weekend where we explored the Heidelberg Palace we also headed out to our own little castle we have here on 'our' mountain. It's a tiny little place of not much note that may or may not have been the inspiration for Mary Shelley's Frankenstein novel. Whether or not it truly is, it is most definitely used to celebrating her book nonetheless and at Halloween the poor mountainside is inundated with Frankenstein monsters from all over the world. For this reason we went and visited the cute little burg in oh, July...on a sunny/rainy day. We had a great time exploring and talking with people as it was a Nibelung En Die Burg that weekend. So the story of Siegfried and the Dragon was presented, as was a life-size trebuchet demonstration. We threw spears at a pig and cow target to try and 'get dinner' and roasted some "Dragon bait" over a fire. Much fun was had by all. Then the storm came in fast and hard and we had the different experience of hiding out in the tower as the rain pelted the building and the wind howled through the open windows of the tower. Very fun, and pretty much cleared everyone out of the castle but us. So when the storm abated, we had free reign to explore and look around. Of course I'm a dunce and so shortly after we finished exploring we headed down one of the many mountain trails to head back to the car. No big deal...except it just rained hard and fast...which means the ground was slick as the water didn't have time to absorb into the dirt very well. Then Dash and Grins took off down a different (read *deer) trail and I rushed to catch them before they ran head long over a cliff, only to have the ground beneath my feet give way. I soo should have put more ranks into tumble and climb. :P Well Lumpy is on my back and the two of us came slamming down into the mountain side. I narrowly prevented her from smashing her head open on a protruding rock. However I severely twisted my ankle and messed up the opposite side's knee and shoulder. Fun fun, so we turned around and walked/ hobbled back to the car and drove to Burger King for some Chili Cheese bites. Win. All in all was a great day, and we now know for next time that Epic would have been welcome at the castle. He is so coming with us next time.  Oh and I know the formatting for the pictures is wonky...I can't seem to get blogger to quit reformatting my image layouts.  Oh-well.
